Welcome to Archimedes Academy, a comprehensive 6-12 public school whose mission is to provide a rigorous, innovative, college preparatory education focused on math, science, and technology applications while regularly celebrating the accomplishments of its diverse student body and culminating in a Regents diploma and up to 24 college credits. Our dedicated staff works to improve the abilities and talents of all students through hands-on programs and project based learning. This site will act as a portal for some of our common services and tools as well as a space to document the successes of our school.

Our site is current undergoing a major facelift as we switch service from our old site to Drupal.  This upgrade will allow our site to deliver more dynamic content in a streamlined setting.  Please bear with us as we make this change; some links or sections of the site may not work at the moment, but we promise we are working on it!

FIRST (for Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego League robotics will be having their state championship at the Jacob Javits center on Sunday March 14.  Come support Archimedes' team, the Boogie Down Bots as they compete for the state title.

Tickets will go on sale for students on Monday.

 

 

Opening ceremonies are at 9:30 AM, our robot will begin competition at 10:30,

and the awards ceremony begins at 3 PM.

All Saturday school programs including Science Olympiad practice are cancelled due to weather.  There will be no programs at Archimedes on Saturday, February 27. 

 

 

The Golden Gloves boxing match was a success!  The Bronx times has the full story here, or you can check out some pictures at the Boogie Down Blog, the team blog maintained by our robotics team.

 

 

Hot off their First Place Robot Performance award from the Bronx competition, the Boogie Down Bots are preparing to go to the Jacob Javits Center on March 14 for the FLL state championships.  To help prepare for States, Ms. Hartnett took the team to the Alpine Scout camp in NJ where they had an overnight trip with work sessions to prepare for the challenges ahead.  Boogie Down Bots shirts are on sale in the cafeteria now, and if you'd like more information you can always check the Boogie Down Blog!

Archimedes Academy will be hosting the Golden Gloves on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 7 PM. Archimedes has partnered with New York City Public School Boxing to implement amateur boxing as a component of the physical education curriculum.  The New York City Public School Boxing program has been in operation for over a decade providing a healthy, safe sports program and positive environment for children.

The First Lego League qualifier for the Bronx will be held this Saturday, January 16, at Lehman High School.  Tickets will go on sale at lunch tomorrow for all interested students.  Tickets cost $1, and will include transportation to and from the competition.  Come watch the Boogie Down Bots defend their position as the Bronx champions!

The Maleska campus has a thriving after school football program with kids from Bronx Math and Archimedes!  First off, congrats to The Vikings and The Cowboys for their 2-0 streaks.  I'm interviewing last years 'Sportsmanship Award' winner Corey Peirce for more information about the after school football program.
